Port of Piteå continues to strengthen its position

With significant investments over the past ten years and a strong regional presence, we are well-prepared for future challenges and opportunities.

Port of Piteå is a central player in the logistics chain for Norrbotten. We offer efficient intermodal solutions that connect maritime, rail, and road transport. Many of our collaborators are leaders in the region’s business sector and confirm our role as a key player.

“We have several long-term customers and are also seeing new cargo flows with a strong focus on sustainability and green transition. As cargo flows increase, we are well-equipped for the future,” says Ulrika Nilsson, CEO.

Over the past decade, we have invested a quarter of a billion SEK in our port. With a total quay length of 720 meters and a warehouse capacity of 60,000 square meters under roof, we offer well-equipped infrastructure for sea transport and logistics. The facility has three electrified railway tracks, enabling smooth transitions between sea and land transport. Generous terminal areas allow for expanding port operations and storing more goods.

Significant for Piteå

Through our partnership with ShoreLink, Port of Piteå offers four jib cranes and two harbor cranes for efficient loading and unloading. Our RoRo ramp has dual positions for handling rolling cargo. Every year, around 350 ships call at the port, and we can accommodate vessels with a maximum draft of 11.2 meters, allowing us to handle both small and large vessels efficiently.

“The port in Piteå has been significant for the development of Piteå municipality and the entire region. Large companies and employers turn to us for sustainable and efficient logistics solutions.”

Our liner service includes regular sea traffic to England, the Netherlands, and Germany. In 2023, container traffic once again became a regular feature at the port. We also have extensive experience with project cargo, such as wind power components and machinery for the mining industry.

Collaboration with Luleå Port

Collaborations with nearby ports are an important part of our operations. Last year, we signed a cooperation agreement with Luleå Port regarding a shared operations system.

“This demonstrates our adaptation to future needs and our commitment to improved service and efficiency,” says Ulrika Nilsson.
“In the future, the port will be crucial for where new businesses establish themselves, and we are in a strong position to secure more and larger deals.”
