Ice breaking

During the winter months, when the ice takes hold, we charter the icebreaker Viscaria from Luleå harbor. Viscaria breaks the ice in Piteå Harbor’s fairways, ensuring the important freight traffic to and from Piteå. Outside the harbor’s fairways (near Leskär), the Swedish Maritime Administration’s icebreakers take over.

Viscaria is a powerful icebreaking tugboat, equipped with accommodation for seven crew members. It has an impressive engine power of 6,150 horsepower and a towing capacity of 62 tons.
