Ice breaking

During the ice season, Port of Piteå charters the icebreaker Vilja from Luleå Port for ice breaking within the Haraholmen port area and out to the Leskär lighthouse.

Vilja, which measures 36 x 13 meters, is one of the world’s strongest hybrid powered boats and has an engine power of 7400 horsepower and a pulling power of 100 tons. She is partly powered by electricity, which helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
