With an approach depth of 11.2m (12.5), Port of Piteå is one of the deepest ports in the Gulf of Bothnia. UKC = 0.70m. The port can accommodate ships with a length of 250m and a width of 35m.
The current Fairway Standards of the Swedish Maritime Administration are available at this link

The benefits of being able to accommodate large ships are many. Transport costs for local enterprise are decreased, strengthening its competitiveness. The environment also benefits as the emissions per transported ton are drastically reduced.

You can reach the quay via either the east or the west fairway, depending on which side of the ship you would like to dock. Ships never have to be turned, neither on arrival nor at departure. Port of Piteå also manages the fairway through Pitsund up to the SCA paper mill at Munksund where the depth limit is 6.0m. All SSA managed by Port of Piteå are in compliance with the latest international standards.
